Meet the Boss

August 18 is coming and life right now is full of details, details, details.  We want
everything to go as smoothly as possible and the store to be "just right" for your
viewing pleasure :).
It's going to take us a while to figure out just what everyone would like to see,
so we're starting back with a lot of the former favorites with some new things
added.  Then, as we get your input, we'll know what direction to go.  Hopefully
after the holidays, we'll have a good feel for what our friends find interesting but
until then, you won't be disappointed at what we will offer.
That being said, let's get personal.  Being a family business, it is amazing how
everyone from parents to children (adult and still growing ones) have found their
personal 'niche' in this journey to store opening.  Each one seems to have
claimed their jurisdiction and is focusing on that.  And that's true of what life
for the store will be after opening.
With homeschooling, basketball, ballet, and homemaking still being priority
the majority of 'hands on' at the store will fall to Lynn and some very helpful
and fun ladies.  Anna will be there quite a bit as she has only a little bit of
academics to finish.  She could have graduated last year but with her birthday
falling as it did, she can return to the Lady Knights to play and that is what she
chose.  In 1970's world, she is a senior in a work-study program.  Hope and
Debbie will come later in the week.
In years past, Pat's Antiques was Bob and Pat Baskins' baby.  And most everytime
I remember shopping, Bob was there or somewhere close.  In videos of holiday
Open Houses, Bob was there.  According to long-time employees, Bob was
there.  So the trend will continue, only with a change.  Lynn will be there.
Most every day, Lynn will be there.  He has become an expert on Yankee,
graniteware, florals, cookbooks, you name it he has developed a love for and
knowledge of everything, and is loving every minute.  Don't worry, if you
need something wrapped and everyone else has deserted him, he can handle
it.  We have bows made and fluffed and our "froo" curled and ready to go
on the package. He'll be able to command that hot glue gun with ease. He'll
have the answer to your questions, or know where to find the answer.  Our
mission is: "To make you and your home happy!"  Come see us in a couple
of weeks and let us prove it to you!

Lynn's the real boss, I just couldn't find a picture of him by himself!

Yum!

As promised, I want to share a yummy sounding recipe from one of our cookbooks.  This is a new one: Super Fast Slow Cooking.  I love the name and the concept.  Who doesn't sometimes need to use their crock pot to present a delicious meal for their family's dining pleasure?  And also, because we all find ourselves "scrunched" for time.  This one sounds good!

Sandra's Slow-Cooker Brisket

1 onion, sliced                                          12-oz.bottle chili sauce
3 to 4-lb. beef brisket                                salt and pepper to taste
1 T. smoke-flavored cooking sauce

Arrange onion slices in a slow-cooker; place brisket on top of onion.
Add smoke-flavored cooking sauce; pour chili sauce over brisket.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Cover and cook on low setting for
10-12 hours.  Makes 6 servings.

This cookbook has so many slow-cooker recipes.  Come in and look over all of them.
Happy cooking!  Thanks for checking in!

The Big Day

Good morning to all!  Our first day back in business will be Saturday, August 18.  That day and the next week through August 25 will be a 20% off storewide sale.  We are busy getting merchandise, pricing, putting together display pieces, and just dreaming about what is to be.  I will soon post pictures as a preview of some fun things.  Gooseberry Patch has some great new cookbooks out and that may be the first thing I share with you, along with a recipe from one.
Our new address is 1336 Carley Road in Springdale.  It's just two blocks west of our long-time store and just south of 412.  Stay tuned and mark your calendars!
